Habitat for Humanity, The City of San Jose, The State of California and ARCbuild.

What?

Two heavy commercial buildings, consisting of an administrative office building and a wet utility building with numerous bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry facilities totaling 2,200 square feet.

Where?

San Jose, California.

When?

2019-2020.

Why?

Demonstrate the following in a sustainable, heavy commercial building for emergency and homeless housing:

- Rapid human-centred design

- State compliant build

- ADA-compliant (Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design) build

The ARCbuild team accomplished this build in just over 100 days with a limited budget in the height of the COVID-19 chaos.

This build also included the first prefabricated foundation system in the USA that received approval from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, which is the toughest and most highly regulated building code in the USA.
